ROSELLA POSTORINO

Hitler's Tasters

The bestselling novel Hitler’s Tasters by Rosella Postorino, published by Feltrinelli, will become a movie produced by Lumière &Co and distributed by Vision Distribution. The film will be directed by Oscar nominated Cristina Comencini, with an international cast. Several European co-producers are already committed.

Winner of the 2018 Campiello Award, the Rapallo Prize, the Chianti Prize, the Vigevano Prize, and the Wondy Prize, amongst others, including the prestigious Prix Jean-Monnet in France.  Postorino’s novel has been translated into 32 languages and sold over half a million copies in 46 countries.  Inspired by the story of Margot Wolk, who at the end of her life confessed her involvement as a taster of Hitler’s food, the novel tells the story of Rosa Sauer, forced together with nine other women, to taste the Fuhrer’s meals in order to protect him from food poisoning. Every day, three times a day, she is forced to taste death. In a climate of coercion, these ten women become friends and rivals, they ally and betray each other; they fear and fall in love and do everything they must to stay alive.

Rosella Postorino: “I am hugely curious to see my Rosa Sauer in flesh and blood. It is always exciting to see a story take shape in a different art form. Lumière’s project is ambition and I am delighted.”

Cristina Comencini: “The novel, drawn from a true story, reveals how war is enacted upon the female body. Rosella wrote a novel that recounts a story very few know. I am very happy to make this film and honour her courage.
